Some thoughts for the new year.

May this year bring us

  • Compassion for ourselves and others
  • Self-expression with creativity and joy
  • Health and healing of body/mind/emotions/spirit
  • Peace of mind
  • Enlightenment

2020 was out of a science fiction novel. During the pandemic we were cooped up in our shelters, staying six feet apart, wearing masks and staying away from public places. Many endured great losses, of health and friends, of homes and work. (And we still are!)

It was hard to believe it was happening and it was out of our control, and spreading with more and more deaths. There were dueling explanations which included multiple conspiracy theories. Science was challenged as being less true than feelings.

When events feel out of our control, like this past year, introverts want to withdraw behind safe boundaries and extroverts want to interact with others or dominate to feel safe and in control.

Yet these polarities may not be the most effective ways to be human. Some moments in life call for us to be extroverted and take action and step out, others call for us to be patient and introverted. If we don’t have a fixed strategy to maintain the semblance of control in our lives, we can move fluidly in response to the needs of the moment.

For myself and everyone in the new year, my wish is to be present in the moment and trust that we will be okay, that we will meet the moment to the best of our ability. When we are truly vulnerable and responding to the moment, we are invulnerable to negativity from within and without. Therein lies peace of mind. May all have peace.
