Spring has sprung  The grass has ris I wonder where The flowers is

It’s Spring! Life is sprouting from dry, withered, dead stalks.  Spring is a transition time, when we shake off the cobwebs and ice of Winter and grow again.

We are also beginning to sprout as our body/mind awakens from the confinement of winter and we open to the possibilities of warmth after being shut down against the cold.

When the waters flow down on the earth from the heavens and the warm air returns, the waters in our bodies also begin to flow. We shift from an internal winter/cold state to a spring/warming/flowing state. During that shift we are vulnerable and diet and lifestyle should be carefully watched.
In California the weather is unstable in March, windy and cold one week and warm another. If we start eating like it is Spring too soon, during a warm week eating too many summer foods like fruits, salads, raw or cold foods, a shift in the weather back to cold can make us vulnerable to catching a cold, flue or aggravating allergies.

The best food for the change of seasons is delicious Kitcheree, an easy-to-digest meal of small beans called pulses (split mung beans or orange lentils) and rice, often cooked with vegetables. It is a stew or a soup (if more liquid).Try eating mostly Kitcheree for one week as a mini-cleanse.  Our recipe is here (link).

This is a good time to start a one-month healing diet as found in Know Your Blueprint (link). It takes 30 days for a new habit to become the new normal; shorter than this we will go back to our old ways!

This is also a good time to tune-up your exercise regimen, see where you can put 40 minutes a day into your schedule for yoga, walking, tai chi, dancing, etc.

Meditation reduces stress and can resolve old issues, add energy and clarity to your life. If you are looking for a meditation teacher, ask us for a recommendation.

Regular Abhyanga, Ayurvedic Massage with herbal oil, heals joints and pain and anxiety and also rejuvenates the skin, reduces Vata and improves ojas (immune system).  Call us to schedule an appointment at 831-566-0735.

I’m planting my garden now and the expectation of blooming flowers and delicious vegetables lifts my spirits. We can make every day a holiday on the inside, no matter what happens on the outside.

Oceans of love and expectations of greatness to all.
